I think it calls for a different asparagus recipe. All kidding aside, you'll need to break off the bottom part of the asparagus. They're right, the bottom's the tough part. Check this out--it's a video:

I've never peeled it. If you get rid of the tough part of the stem, you really shouldn't need to peel. When a recipe calls for asparagus to be trimmed an the ends, peeled...what, exactly does this mean?
Peel the ends about 1 inch from the bottom. This section tends to have a tough, woody outer portion. Peeling will reveal the tender interior.
ok..take one piece of asparagus...hold it and bend the end until it breaks *don't force just bend it* then when that one piece is broken..take it and lay it with your other pieces..and cut the ends where the one you broke is at...then they are all trimmed.....hope this helps ya!
To trim the ends I;ve seen people reccomend to snap one into 2 pieces. Where it breaks is where you should trim the rest of the bunch as well. But I think it's to much waste, so I just cut off the kind of dried up tips.
Then to peel the aspargus use a veggie peeler and start about 3/4 the way up the length of the stalk, about where the little light green traingle shapes stop. This will help to make a more tender aspargus. If you have a nice thin/skinny stalk you shouldn't really need to peel it. But if you have the big thick stalk you should definitley peel it.
the base of the stems are hard %26amp; you need to cut them off
